Best Strategic Fundraising Methods To Start Using Today

By Scott Campbell

Running a nonprofit takes money, no matter how big or small your organization is. That is why getting donors is essential. In order to get donors to give, you need to employ a number of strategic fundraising methods. This will not only help you to attract new donors, but to retain the ones that you already have.

When asking people to give, suggest to them different giving levels. This is much better than leaving donors to decide how much they would like to give on their own. Suggesting various levels of giving increases the chances of people forking out more money. You can even leave a blank field for someone to give whatever amount they want, if they are not comfortable with your suggested levels.

You will get people who will want to give you major one time donations and others who may want to give you small monthly gifts. As much as large donations are good, small regular donations tend to add up. In the long run, regular givers end up giving much more to your organization, since you will have created a much deeper relationship than the relationship you have with someone who wants to give only once.

Social proof goes a long way in encouraging other people to give to your charity too. Once someone sees that other people are giving, they will want to join the cause too since they will want to be part of a good cause. Leverage social proof by indicating the amount to be raised and the amount collected so far. You can also highlight the number of donors, who have given so far.

Be transparent about the way you handle money. Donors want to know that the cash that they are giving is being properly used. If you use funds wrongly or if they are not sure what their money is being used for, people will be unwilling to give. That is why you should provide reports on where the money raised goes.

Donor recognition is important. Donors want to be appreciated and appreciated in public if possible. This boosts their ego, as it shows that they are generous and responsible members of the society. That is why you should come up with a way to recognize donors for their giving.

Practice peer to peer fundraising. This involves getting your donors to fund raise for your charity organization. You can do this by using fundraising software. This will enable your donors to create their own fundraising pages and share it with their family and friends. The software will help you keep track of who has raised how much.

Ask for the donation. Do not be afraid to ask for the money. You have to be straightforward about it. This involves including a call to action in all the communication documents that you send out to your donors. For instance, you can ask them to send money within a certain time frame, or sign up for an event or join a mailing list. Do not be shy about asking, since your donors are willing to help and will be more than glad to do what you want.
