Tips For Buying Used Mobile Cranes

By Emily Canady

When you want to buy a second-hand machine, there are many fears that engulf you as the buyer. This is because you do not know whether the equipment will serve you as you wish. Some breakdown just after you buy them and getting your money back may not be guaranteed. However, you can avoid such worries by reading the tips below on how to get reliable mobile cranes for sale.

When it comes to second-hand machines, hours of operation is a critical factor that you should not ignore. Do not be misled by the year of manufacture. One crane could be ten years old and still much better than one that is merely three years into service. This is because how the machine is used is a determinant on its wearing out.

Check the equipment history. Before even testing the crane, you should ask the previous owner if the vehicle was ever seized. A yes response would indicate that the equipment was not being taken care of properly by the previous owner. If the machine has an on-site accident history, that would be a huge red flag.

Check the credibility of the seller. It is good to buy a used machine from a trustworthy seller. If the dealer has a website, you can check for online reviews from other clients so that you can know whether they are safe to deal with. If there are too many unresolved complaints, then just avoid that seller.

Inspect the equipment. One of the most important red flags is leaking fluids under the engine. These hard-to-see places hold secrets that can save you from purchasing a spoiled machine. If the machine is spurting fuel or lubricant, you will easily see residual stains. This could be an indication of mechanical problem.

Check for signs of recent repairs. Welding marks are an indication of repairs and if not done properly, could cause subsequent problems. Heavy machines such as cranes require to be welded properly and professionally. Manual welds are not the best when it comes to industrial machines.

Pay close attention to engine sounds. Every machine that operates using an engine has a particular sound and you can simply tell that seething is wrong if this sound changes. If there is a problem, you should know its nature and if it is serious.

Check the brakes. Take the vehicle for a test run and hit maximum speed so that you can feel if it breaks smoothly. Drive around for at least five minutes so that you can feel all the moving parts while listening keenly for weird noises. Make sure to drive under different conditions.

The last thing on your list should be the price. Definitely, you need to have a price range even before going to the market. There is no need viewing and testing a machine that is way out if your budget. If it is close to what you are willing to give, then you can bargain.
