Here Is Information On Thermal Transfer Ribbon

By Barbara Stevens

In all kinds of businesses, labeling and printing are very important processes. Particularly, labeling is essential in advertising and enhancing the popularity of a brand produced by a company. The resistance of the print image when exposed to chemicals, sunlight, and abrasion and the print quality determine the durability of a label application.

For the label to function effectively, it is critical that the base material be selected wisely. The same can be said of the material used in making the actual labels. Among the most ideal material choices that can be utilized in label making is thermal transfer ribbon. There exists several ribbon types. Individuals are supposed to be cautious so that they can select the ideal type of ribbons. The selected ribbon must have the capacity to function well on various base materials.

Besides choosing the label material, it is also important to choose the right application method to use. In most cases, application is done using a special printer called a thermal transfer label printer. There are several brands of these printers on the market for one to pick from. They vary in many aspects such as size, power consumption, results produced, and affordability.

One should take their time to carry out research regarding the various kinds of printers on the market. It is important to compare various models before deciding to buy one. One should compare the various features that various printers offer and the price at which they go. Being able to find a product with a good combination of features and price is advisable.

Secondly, buyers are supposed to pay attention to the ribbon they choose. Fundamentally, there exist three major thermal transfer vinyl types in the market. These are wax/resin, resin, and wax ribbons. All the listed types differ in various aspects, including cost, durability, and the base material with which they can be used. As such, each type is associated with distinctive merits and demerits that one needs to base on when choosing.

Also, there are subtypes like economy and premium ribbons within every type of ribbon. Regardless of the kind of ribbon a person chooses, two major types of print heads are usually used to print on these ribbons. These are the flat-type and near edge heads. Corner edge and true edge heads are the other names that can be used in reference to near edge print heads.

Of all the ribbons present in the market, wax ribbons are the cheapest. This is partially because wax is used in making a big percentage of the substance. In most instances, they have one colorant layer. These ribbons can be printed at a significantly lower temperature since the melting point of waxes is lower than that of resin.

Similarly, waxes are usually softer compared to resin. The softness usually affects the image produced in that it has lower durability. The image is also less resistant to chemicals, environmental resistance, smudge, and scratch. To improve durability, these ribbons should not be coated on surfaces that are expected to experience a lot of physical contact or abrasion. Wax ribbons are most suitable for printing on matte, coated, and uncoated surfaces.
