Some skills may get finer with age and experience, but definitely not with driving. As age creeps in, driving skills deteriorate rapidly. Hands become shaky, eyesight becomes very poor; everything just gets worse with the impatient hooting and shouting of other drivers. Going through eye and ear examination will help you to effectively manage the problems. It usually becomes too difficult to focus on the road if you have sight problems. Therefore, having your lenses all the time will enable safe driving. Consider having aids in order to hear every movement on the road.

Even though medication helps people go by the day, it also has effects that hinder them to perform some tasks. It would be wise not to drive when medicine alters your abilities. To know more about your medication, ask your physician or refer to the packaging or container of the medicine.

Being realistic about your limitations can also help ensure road safety. This way you will be able to quickly adjust to situations without endangering yourself or other road users. Adjustments may include increasing the following distance; giving yourself enough reaction time to brake. Also, you may want to start using the brakes early. Remember your eyesight might be worsening, thus judging distance may no longer be as accurate as before. If you see a stop sign or red robot, start hitting the brakes slowly to have a smooth stop.

You should also consider adjusting your seat. Moving the seat to a comfortable position will enable you to reach for the steel wheel and have total control of the car without difficulties. You will also be in a position to see all your mirrors and easily recognize or scan the road. By moving the seat, you will be able to reach for the gas and brake pedals without difficulty.

Certain conditions are just not suitable for adult people to drive in. These include harsh weather conditions, at night and during rush hour; avoid driving during this time.
