Using After School Transportation Pleasanton When Your Child Has Food Allergies

By Douglas Carter

When your child has food allergies, you might be hesitant about having them ride the bus. Schedule a meeting with the school and also the car driver to make sure your child's food allergy and the safety procedures are fully understood. At the meeting, be sure to go over the allergy action plan and fill out all necessary paperwork. Find out their policies for eating on the vehicle and teasing/ bullying. Will these rules be communicated and visibly posted on the bus? How are rules enforced and violations handled in after School Transportation Pleasanton?

What type? First and foremost, decide on its dimensions, including the auto type and size. Budget and seating capacity are the determining factors in the decision. One needs to choose between a conventional bus and a transit type vehicle. It is mostly seen that transit buses with rear engines are preferred over the ones with front engines, as the drivers do not have to suffer the engine heat and noise.

One popular choice in the area of school transportation today is the full-size van. These vans are equipped much like the family mini-van save for the fact that they can sit considerably more children. In some cases, up to sixteen children can sit in a school van. These vans are normally driven by someone who has taken driving classes specific to the circumstances. They are equipped to deal with any emergencies that may arise.

Another form of educational transportation today is charter buses. These are usually seen in some of the larger metropolitan areas. The buses are sent out when many children need to be picked up in a small area. There are too many students to fit on a traditional institute bus, so instead charter buses are hired. Again, the drivers are used to working with children, so they can stay much focused on the task at hand while providing safe institutional transport.

Implore its interior. Since the passengers of the bus may range from kids to teenagers, it is of utmost importance to check the interiors of the vehicle. One needs to ensure that the steps and floor of the vehicle are secure & solid. The bar railings should be rounded and blunt. There should be no sharp edges or corners jutting out. At the entry & exit gates, there should be a provision for hand rails, and the floor height should also be low. The materials used inside the vehicle should be easy to clean and capable of withstanding rough use.

Is the driver willing and able to administer epinephrine in an emergency? If not, they need to provide an aide on the automobile who can assist your child with an emergency. You might even want to find out the possibility of having an aide on the van to watch over your child.

Are there documents that prove that my child's driver (and escort) are trained and cleared to work with children? When did you last check the drivers (and escort's) CRB certificate? When was appropriate safety checks last carried out on the vehicle or vehicles that my child travels in? When were the driver's license and insurance last checked?

Find out the method they would use to communicate if they experience a medical emergency on their bus. What steps would they take to respond to an anaphylactic emergency - for example, would they pull over, administer EpiPen, call medical and then the school? They will need to know the quickest route to a medical facility and have the numbers readily available.
